Small Grants

The Community Foundation supports small investments in projects that identify and address community needs. This year, we awarded more than 130 small grants, totaling nearly $190,000. The following are some highlights.

Arc of Onondaga - $5,000
Host a Yoga for Kids program at Parkside Children’s Center

Citizens Campaign for the Environment - $3,000
Conduct outreach to pharmacies to encourage the implementation of pharmaceutical take-back programs

CNY Jazz Arts Foundation - $2,400
Support Jazz in the City initiative to connect urban and suburban areas with music and culture

David’s Refuge - $7,500
Streamline the booking process for guest housing available to parents and guardians of children with special needs or life-threatening medical conditions

Mid York Musketeers - $3,000
Purchase drums for a youth-led marching band and drumline 

Oneida City School District - $5,500
Provide materials for Middle School Counts, a summer program for struggling middle school students

Otisco Lake Preservation Association - $425
Purchase signage to educate boaters on how to avoid introducing or spreading invasive species

Syracuse 20/20 - $2,500
Support the Book Buddies program at Seymour Dual Language Academy

Syracuse Children’s Chorus - $6,974
Perform Time and Place, based on Syracuse’s historic involvement in the Underground Railroad

Upstate Venture Connect - $1,000 
Support for student participation in the 2016 Upstate Unleashed conference and Upstate Venture Ecosystem Awards celebration
