When my clients wanted to give back to the community and save on estate taxes, I helped them incorporate charitable giving into their estate plans. I recommended considering the Community Foundation for any range of contribution, whether it was a small gift to the broad-reaching Community Fund or the establishment of a new fund that would benefit the causes they believe in.

If you would like to give charitably before the end of the tax year, I recommend setting up a donor-advised fund. These funds provide a simple way to make a charitable contribution to the community before year-end. The Community Foundation will take care of all of the necessary paperwork and filings for you, leaving you to focus on recommending when gifts will go to your favorite charities.

By setting up a fund at the Community Foundation or naming them as a beneficiary in your will, you ensure your charitable wishes are carried out in perpetuity.
