Kara Hood Memorial Scholarship

Kara Hood, a 1995 graduate of Jamesville-DeWitt High School, was killed in an automobile accident on January 15, 2001 in South Africa. Her short career, after graduating with honors from Trinity College in 1999, involved working for the underserved populations of South Africa. Danielle Hootnick, a high school friend and classmate of Kara’s, realized, like most in her community, that Kara’s tragic accident in Africa changed lives — not only because Kara left, but because she had touched so many. Danielle, along with Kara’s family, established this memorial scholarship in 2001 to be awarded to a graduating female student involved in athletics at Jamesville-DeWitt High School who closely modeled Kara’s spirit and concern for the community.
