A Message Regarding the Racially Motivated Shooting in Buffalo

We all deserve to be able to go about our daily lives feeling safe from harm. But the egregious violence and senseless loss of life witnessed in Buffalo this past weekend is a stark reminder that Black, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Latino and Native American community members are commonly targets of violence due to racism and white nationalism. To counteract this abhorrent ideology, we can all do our part by strongly condemning such acts and working to cultivate inclusive and safe communities that are characterized by justice, respect, compassion and understanding.

Our hearts are with those who are grieving and traumatized, including our many Say Yes Scholars working to achieve their degrees in the Buffalo region. The Central New York Community Foundation will be making a donation in their honor to the Greater Buffalo Racial Equity Roundtable, an initiative of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo that works to advance racial equity and promote the change required to accelerate a shared regional prosperity.
