随着新型冠状病毒在全球和我们的社区蔓延,其直接影响是毁灭性和深远的。 从数量惊人的生命损失,到更多生命受到威胁和破坏,我们被推入了一个持续至今的不确定和变化时期。

作为一个社区,我们以非凡的方式做出了回应。 教师成了远程教育专家和信息技术专业人员,家长成了课堂助手和家庭辅导员,一线工作者成了第一响应者,我们都面临着挑战,需要找到新的方法,在实际工作中相互合作,相互支持。

这就是本报告的主题:纽约中部居民以前所未有的方式应对前所未有的危机。 基金会理事会承诺 “紧急行动起来,支持我们的非营利性合作伙伴以及受 COVID-19 影响最严重的人们和社区”,在此指导下,社区基金会做出了响应,将其资助重点转向奥农达加、麦迪逊、奥斯韦戈和卡尤加县的紧急救援工作。

3 月和 4 月,我们承诺提供初始资金和行政援助,与地方政府和地区资助者合作,在我们的服务领域内设立一系列 COVID-19 支持基金。 这些新的联盟加强了合作,简化了资源调配,最重要的是,为那些受到大流行病经济后果严重影响的社区工作的非营利组织提供了响应性赠款。

非营利组织也做出了回应,建立新的伙伴关系,调整计划和服务,以满足新出现的需求。 发放补助金的目的是解决与数字鸿沟相关的更大的获取差距,以及支持对食品、紧急儿童保育、远程保健和心理健康服务、女性卫生用品、清洁用品和个人防护设备(PPE)的更多需求。 许多教堂成为社区中心,并获得资助,向难以接触到的人群分发食品、用品和信息。

社区成员也以灵活性和创造性做出了回应。 个人、家庭和大学生团体自愿到前线提供帮助;一些人组织了筹款活动,包括虚拟柠檬水摊和现场直播音乐会。 社区基金会捐赠者建议基金持有人将其基金捐赠给 COVID-19 社区支持基金。 许多人慷慨地将他们的联邦经济刺激资金转用于支持这些工作。 还有更多的个人、家庭、企业和基金会捐赠者深思熟虑地奉献时间和资源,帮助我们最需要帮助的邻居。
