Nearly $900,000 Distributed to Local Nonprofits

The Central New York Community Foundation recently distributed $884,997 in grants to local nonprofits.

AccessCNY– $50,000

Purchase a new wheelchair-accessible van to help transport individuals with developmental disabilities or an acquired brain injury to community outings

CNY Arts-$25,000

Purchase marketing related materials that encourages hard-to-reach populations to attend virtual or in-person arts programs

CNY Lyme & Tick-Borne Disease Alliance- $40,000

Expand its education program and transition its Education Coordinator to a full-time position to increase outreach and awareness of tick-borne disease

Community Options-$23,000          

Purchase a vehicle to help bring people who would otherwise be isolated to interviews, jobs and training sites

Consortium for Children’s Services- $30,000

Provide Circle of Security Parenting and Intensive Home Visiting services to help improve parent/child relationships and mental health

Fight for Hearts -$11,300

Launch a new fitness program, Spinning Orange, to continue providing free virtual fitness classes for children

InterFaith Works- $65,000   

Create an Afghan Unmet Needs Fund to provide direct assistance to Afghan evacuees resettling in Syracuse

Junior Achievement of Central Upstate New York- $20,000

Expand JA Inspire, a virtual work-readiness program that connects students throughout Onondaga and Madison counties with employers

LiteracyCNY- $30,000

Train and recruit 100 new volunteers for its adult literacy programs and offer support for returning and new volunteers

Loretto- $77,000

Create a Recruitment and Training Center to provide a space for employer-driven vocational training and application assistance

Madison County Children’s Camp – $15,000

Build a boathouse to store water activity equipment to prevent deterioration

Museum of Science & Technology Foundation- $75,000

Upgrade its Omitheater, a digital theatre and planetarium that allows for virtual streaming

New York Civil Liberties Union Foundation- $50,000

Launch a program to promote civic engagement and education in the local community around the I-81 and Syracuse Surge infrastructure projects

Northeast Hawley Development Association- $24,376

Launch an economic development program for local Minority/Women-owned Business Enterprises that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic

Onondaga Environmental Institute- $39,896

Launch an environmental education program to engage youth in place-based outdoor and indoor science adventures at Onondaga Creek Watershed

Purpose Farm- $20,000       

Rebuild its main barn that burned down last year

Redhouse Arts Center-$40,000      

Support operating expenses for its 2021-22 Main-Stage Season

Syracuse Film Center- $45,000

Launch a filmmaking training program for local youth

The First Tee of Syracuse- $49,425

Build two overhanging decks to provide access to fishing opportunities for youth to engage in nature

Town of Nelson- $20,000

Remediate erosion that threatens Blueberry Island, a small island in Tuscarora Lake that provides habitat for northern red bellied turtles, Canadian geese, mergansers, kingfishers and muskrats

YMCA of Greater Syracuse- $75,000

Replace windows and renovate its senior citizen housing to improve the overall quality of life for its senior tenants as well as address health and safety concerns

 

$60,000 in LeadSafeCNY Grants Distributed

CenterState CEO- $60,000

Host training sessions for Minority/Women-owned Business Enterprises to help prepare them to compete for lead testing and remediation projects
