Community Foundation Announces New Board Members and Officer

On June 17, 2020, the Central New York Community Foundation board of directors elected three new members and appointed a new officer.

On June 17, 2020, the Central New York Community Foundation board of directors elected three new members and appointed a new officer.

The following new members were appointed to serve their first three-year term:

William H. Brower, Vice President, Communications & Advancement, Le Moyne College

Bill has 32 years of experience working in higher education advancement. He is skilled in board development, comprehensive campaigns, moves management, volunteer engagement, stewardship and data analytics. Bill currently serves on the boards of Christian Brothers Academy and Catholic Charities of Onondaga County. He formerly served as a board member for the Montessori School of Syracuse and the United Way of Central New York.

Susan Furtney, MPH, Chief Strategy Officer, Upstate University Hospital

Susan has more than 25 years of business development, operations management, analytics and consulting experience in for-profit and nonprofit organizations. In addition to her current position of overseeing strategic planning and corporate development initiatives at Upstate University Hospital, she is also president of the Samaritan Center Board of Directors, a member of the Early Childhood Alliance Leadership Council and a member of our Grants and Community Initiatives Committee.

Kevin E. Schwab, Vice President of Public Policy & Government Relations and Air Service Development, CenterState CEO

Kevin is a veteran of the communications industry with expertise in public relations, strategic communications planning and journalism. He developed and implemented the successful Fly Syracuse program, increasing passenger traffic and reducing airfares in Syracuse. Kevin volunteers on the Syracuse Say Yes Scholarship Council and is co-chair of the Literacy Coalition of Onondaga County. He is a member of the New York Aviation Management Association.

The Community Foundation also announced its slate of officers for the upcoming year:

Casey Crabill, Ed.D, President, Onondaga Community College, will serve as Chair.

Daniel Fisher, Former Executive Vice President, Welch Allyn, will serve as Vice Chair.

Caragh D. Fahy, CFP®, President and Owner, Madison Financial Planning Group, will serve as Treasurer.

Karin Sloan DeLaney, Esq., PrincipalSloan DeLaney P.C., serves as Compliance Officer.

The Central New York Community Foundation is a public charity established in 1927 that collects contributions from donors, manages them to grow over time and then distributes funding to local charities to help them thrive. It is the largest charitable foundation in Central New York with assets of nearly $260 million and has invested more than $200 million in community improvement projects since its inception. As a grantmaker, civic leader, convener and sponsor of strategic initiatives, the Community Foundation strives to strengthen local nonprofits, encourage better understanding of the region and address the most critical issues of our time.
