Allan H. & Helen C. Miskell Foundation

Both Allan and Helen were born and raised in Auburn. Allan worked in education, holding several teaching and vice/head principal roles at schools in Port Byron and Auburn, including East and West Middle Schools and Auburn Central School during his tenure. For four years, Allan also served as federal coordinator for the Auburn City School District. During this time period, he was instrumental in receiving many grants that benefited poverty-level residents. Helen worked as an accountant for 46 years at the firm now known as Beardsley Design Associates Architecture, Engineering & Landscape Architecture, P.C. Their son, Peter, passed away in 2015 at the age of 63. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in early adulthood and spent much of his life institutionalized. Peter was someone who was always bolstering the spirits of those around him, making the nurses and fellow patients laugh. Allan and Helen spoke very highly of the care he received and those that helped treat him during his lifetime. They established this fund to support many local charities over a broad spectrum, including NAMI and Unity House, two organizations that provide mental health support and services.
