The Sarah Lombardi Pietrafesa Scholarship for Mastery in Music is awarded annually to a Christian Brothers Academy student entering their senior year of high school who possesses an innate musical talent, a commitment to musical progress, a capacity to work diligently in both academics and music and a strong desire to share music through performance.
The scholarship is funded through a grant from the Sarah Lombardi Pietrafesa Fund, established by her children in 2007 in honor of their mother’s 80th birthday. To apply for this scholarship, please contact Christian Brothers’ Academy.
The award is in honor of pianist Sarah Lombardi Pietrafesa. A native of Syracuse, Mrs. Pietrafesa flrst played publicly at age 5 and played with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra at age 10. She graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, where she played with the world renowned Boston Pops, soloed at the celebrated Gardner Museum, and was the flrst woman ever to play with the Harvard University Orchestra. Sarah continued her studies of piano at the Paris Conservatory under a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, and delivered hundreds of solo performances during her career. Her artistry and dedication to the craft gave inspiration to thousands of aspiring musicians, and joy to millions of her listeners, including her loving family.
