In May, leaders from five local grassroots and nonprofit organizations celebrated their completion of The Leadership Classroom (TLC), an initiative of the Central New York Community Foundation. After participating in monthly training sessions, each group received a $4,000 grant to implement a community project that is proposed and planned during their training.
Each organization is addressing a unique and specific need in the Greater Syracuse community:
African American Association of Senior Citizens will launch a senior outreach program that will connect seniors with visitors, transportation services and events.
Black Girls Don’t Get Love will host the Black Girls Don’t Get Love Film Training Program for young Black girls to learn how to produce movies from pre-production to post-production.
John 6:12 Ministries will host an Empowerment Day to help people express themselves and relieve stress through creative art activities.
Rise Above Poverty: Battle Ready Men will launch the Battle Ready Mentoring Program to equip young men to be productive citizens as they transition from boys to men while emphasizing academics, mental health, self-care, and career aspirations.
Write Out will increase educational opportunities for local youth writers by offering honorariums, mentorship, workshops and presentations.
The Leadership Classroom (TLC) is an eight-month leadership training initiative offered by the Central New York Community Foundation. Participants are community and nonprofit representatives who want to learn advanced leadership skills alongside other neighborhood leaders in an interactive setting.
