Hiscock Legal Aid (HLA) provides free legal services to individuals and families in need across Central New York through its five programs: Civil, Family Court, Immigration, Appeals, and Parole.

The Civil Program at HLA offers legal representation in divorce, domestic violence, landlord/tenant, foreclosure prevention, and unemployment insurance benefit matters. Hiscock Legal Aid Society provides crucial support to low-income individuals and families in need.

In the Family Court Program, HLA represents adults in mandated cases such as custody/visitation, abuse/neglect, order of protection, and child support violation. Additionally, holistic support services are offered to address non-legal issues like mental health, substance abuse, and housing instability.

HLA’s Immigration Program, supported primarily by the New York State Office for New Americans, serves 18 counties across the Central New York, Mohawk Valley, and the North Country regions of New York State. HLA assists with a wide range of immigration matters, including family reunification, naturalization, asylum, deportation defense, and more.

The Appeals Program provides mandated representation to individuals appealing criminal convictions and Family Court judgments, while the Parole Program aids parolees in revocation proceedings and a Social Worker provides re-entry services.

Additionally, HLA provides representation in extradition cases in Onondaga County Court.

In the last year, we’ve impacted more than 15,000 people through more than 9,000 cases.
