Nancy A. Fradenburg was born on June 28, 1942 in Canastota. The daughter of the late Michael and Christine (Seymore) Buttino, Nancy lived in Canastota all of her life, graduating from Canastota High School in 1960 and SUNY Oswego in 1964. She married Jon R. Fradenburg on August 21, 1965, in Canastota, and the pair was happily married for 57 years.Nancy was an elementary school teacher for the Canastota Central School District for 35 years until she retired in 1999. She was a reading teacher for most of that time, as well as a mentor to new teachers. She remained active at the school following her retirement and had a life-long commitment to children’s education, which led to her receiving the Vincent V. Albanese Alumni Achievement Award from Canastota High School. Nancy was a devoted committee member of many school and community organizations, including the Canastota Teachers Association and the Retired Teachers Association, the Canastota Alumni Association, the Canastota Wall of Distinction Committee, the Canastota Bicentennial Committee and the Italian American Books Committee. In addition to her teaching and community involvement Nancy was a member of St. Agatha’s Church in Canastota. She found time to enjoy traveling, reading, and spending time with her family and her cats.
This fund was created in Nancy’s memory to provide $5,000 annually to the Canastota Alumni Association for scholarship awards to graduating seniors of Canastota High School.
