Donald Trufant, an Auburn native, served in the Air Force for four years before working in the banking and financial services industry and retiring in Virginia. A 1950 graduate of Union Springs High School, Donald decided to give back to his alma mater in the form of a scholarship. Annual scholarships are awarded to students graduating from Auburn High School and Union Springs High School.
Requirements
Applicants must be graduating from high school, have financial need, possess leadership qualities, regard a challenge as an opportunity, in the top 20% of their class, and believe in facing challenges head-on. Students can receive nominations from their peers for consideration by the selection committee. Application must include three recommendation forms (two from teachers and one from a professional/community member), an essay, and a transcript. Eight scholarships can be given: four students are awarded from Auburn High School and four students are awarded from Union Springs High School. Awards are renewable up to four years, pending the recipients provide proof of enrollment.
